Supporting fellow Lib Dem MP Charlie Maynard's High Court challenge against Thames Water’s reckless plan to take on another £3 billion in debt

I am disappointed by the High Court’s verdict on Thames Water which means it takes on another £3 billion in debt. This is going to drive up bills for customers in Esher and Walton and will force the company to prioritise debt repayments over fixing its crumbling infrastructure and tackling the sewage scandal.

Thames Water is continuing to fail residents and customers in Esher and Walton. Ofwat has recently launched an enforcement case against them for failing to complete over 100 critical environmental projects on time. This includes schemes designed to improve water quality and prevent sewage flooding in our local rivers, including the Thames and the Mole, a chalk stream which is now appallingly polluted.

Instead of drowning itself in more unsustainable debt, Thames Water should be focused on fixing its infrastructure and prevent further environmental failures.

I was pleased to support fellow Lib Dem MP Charlie Maynard ’s High Court challenge. When Charlie gave evidence to the court, Ofwat and the Government didn’t even bother to turn up, which the presiding judge described as “unfortunate.” Only Charlie Maynard and the Liberal Democrats stood up for the public interest
