Overstay boats on the Thames - update

Shortly after being elected, I wrote to the CEO of the Environment Agency and to the new Minister for the Environment raising the problem of overstay boats moored on the Thames and asking for action. They both committed to respond.

I was very pleased that on the 24th of September, in a joint operation between the Environment Agency, Elmbridge Borough Council, and the Police, two of the longest and biggest overstay boats were towed away at last and enforcement notices were served on two miles of riverbank.

Well done to all those involved- this is a very important issue to residents. I am determined that this should mark the start of a broader, more sustained enforcement plan which I will push to see fully implemented.
