Joining the Liberal Democrat Frontbench: International Development

I am delighted and honoured to join the Liberal Democrat Frontbench as the Spokesperson for International Development.

When in the Coalition Government, The Lib Dems introduced the policy of spending 0.7% of Gross National Income on international development, a manifesto pledge of ours since the 1970s. Through this commitment, Britain enhanced its global role and did a huge amount of good. When in Government alone, however, the Conservatives evaded this responsibility.

As spokesperson, I will be urging the Government to restore the 0.7% promise and Britain’s position as a global development leader. At this dangerous time, it is imperative that international development be regarded as a priority.

I will be posting updates on international development matters on my social media accounts and website.
