Raising concerns about Government increases to National Insurance

Esher and Walton boasts an above average proportion of business owners, start-ups and high growth enterprises, and many business owners have written to me expressing their serious concerns about the Government’s plans to increase National Insurance contributions.

One business owner wrote to me saying they’d be cutting their operations and that ‘It’s crushed any incentive or possibility for businesses to grow”.

The OBR has indicated the Government’s increase of employer National Insurance contributions will slow GDP, push inflation up, and forecasts that ‘76% of the NICs increase will be passed on through a squeeze on workers’ pay rises and increased prices. In Parliament I asked the Minister about this, the protections for our local businesses, the workers they employ, and growth to the economy.
